$tan da MAN-Today is bits art gallery groups last day working. It is with a heavy heart that I must say goodbye to all of my friends and colleagues here, many of whom I have seen on a daily basis for over couple of months. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the support I received here at bits, and to let you all know that I have appreciated the friendly atmosphere in which I have worked.

Vinnie da Pooh-We shared alot of fun times, painting, and blogging. Not so much blogging, but we definitely had fun painting. It was a rough six weeks but we pulled through, we gained alot of experience working, and improved our portfolio building skills.

Super Si-Si-Today is the BITS Open House. It is also the last day of the program. I am going to miss coming here every morning.This program has been a life changing experience. I had the best group in this program,ART GALLERY. I want to thank everyone I worked with and everyone that came out and supported us. I will miss it all. BYE:-(

First Art Gallery Showing!

Six weeks ago we were handed a storage room. Littered all over the floor were bulky boxes, dreary drawers, and obtrusively in the middle were two huge dusty desks. Six weeks later, trudging through murky waters, rolling through rugged mountains, and navigating through raging tempest, with perseverance, diligence, and inner fortitude, we arrived upon a transformed room. Transfigured, the boxes became deep thoughtful paintings, the drawers became invigorating collages, and the ugly desks crumbled away to reveal a furnished table on which we laid down treats for our prospective gallery viewers.

We poured blood, sweat, and tears, in our paintings, in our work. Each and every painting that hangs on the wall today contains a deep history. They aren't just random colors splotched together in desperate hope for a crude painting. They are a blend of colors that reflect ourselves. We did not make these paintings with our hands; we made it from our hearts. Each stroke of paint was guided by our soul, our emotions flowered the colors, and our sweat mixed the paint.

One O' clock ticked, and the gates were opened. Urban denizens swarmed our front gates in eager anticipation to view what we have done these past weeks. Seventy pair of eyes gazed upon our work, comments were flung all around,

"The collage talks to me"
"These works of art should be in a real museum."
"You can really see and feel the time and effort put into the work."
"The art is beautiful, I love every piece."

We must also mention and cannot disregard the few dozen Good Job's and Nice Work's that were handed to us. All these comments contributed to five heart felt smiles that spanned across our faces at the end of the day. We were proud, proud of ourselves, proud of the experience, proud of our work, proud of our gallery.

Today was only the first of our art gallery showing, it was a mere trial run, but it was met with tremendous success. Tomorrow will be our second opening, starting at 7 P.M. and ending at 9 A.M., we will host another art showing. This time it will be much more exasperating, exuberant, extraordinary, and utterly mind blowing.

On Monday we went around Temple campus to pick up some of the trash that could be recycled. We found a spot next to the subway which was very dirty,and filled with mosquitoes and smelly, it was filled with trash from cans, bags, paper, plastic even a deodorant. We picked everything up and placed it in a plastic bag. Then we walked around the campus until we found a recycling bin.

recycling shoulld be enforced more often to keep communities safe and clean. More recycling bins should be placed all around the city and message needs to get to the people through all the different types of media like radio stations, televisions, and newspapers. If people would not throw trash out in the first place then no one would be picking up trash. Please remember RECYCLE your trash.

Wild Week Three

This week was filled with ups and downs, like a roller coaster, certain days are flooded with surprises while others would be dry like the sands of the Sahara. Wednesday was a wickedly weird day, that was the day where we started filming around the campus to promote our art gallery and our ultimate campaign to change the world. To say the least we weren't professionals, but we threw our best and it struck home. Equipped with a low budget digital camera we ventured out to document the various environmental problems and hazards that plagued Temple's campus. Along the way we approached various denizens of the campus and with an impromptu attitude we inquire them about their views and thoughts on recycling. Ultimately the video turned out to be a fantastic blend of silly stunts with Sierra to a seemingly serious conversation with a janitor.

Fast forwarding to Friday. Friday is Walter day. This time instead of creating crazy collages we made perceptive paintings. Cheap retail brushes in hand, we started splashing together random colors in order to make a form of art in which Walter dubbed as "abstract". By lunch we were splattered by paint, but we definetely had fun. These paintings and previous week's collages will be on display in our art show coming in three weeks. Stay tuned.

Week 3- Blog #2

On July 22, 2009 we began shooting a video to advertise our art gallery and to make people aware of some of the areas around the city. Our mission is to bring people aware of how the city is becoming a dump because people do not put their items in the trash and they also do not recycle. We interviewed residents of Philadelphia to see their insight on recycling. We also tried to show how the city looks because of the trash and filth that people throw down. You can check out our video soon on our blog and you tube by next week.

On July 23,2009 we had portfolio training with Tom. Today was not as interesting as the other days were, but overall it was cool. We had to complete the packet that work ready assigned to us. We were supposed to get the packet three weeks ago, but we didn't so we had to go through a lot real quick. Tom helped us go through the packet faster by putting on some music. In the end we finished a lot of the packet. Tomorrow will be Friday and we'll be working with Walter again.

An Inconvenient Truth Global Warming Documentary Movie

(Shanice)- Yesterday we watched Al Gore's documentary on global warming. It was very inspirational. It made me think a lot about how much we need to change. I encourage everyone to watch it. check it out!!

($tan the man)- after the al gore documentary, we watched "Recycling in Ghana". It explained to us what E-waste is and how countries are getting polluted by it. some examples of places were India, China and Africa. they also found computers from school district of philadelphia that were dumped in Ghana. overall it explained how companies are lying to consumers about how they dispose of electronics.

(Vinny the Pooh)- The way these companies try to recycle is just stupid. Just so they could save a few dollars they dump all their rusted metal in not only Ghana but in other developing countries like China and India. It doesn't just stop there, people who are in poverty are forced to burn these metals in order to make a living, but as they burn these metals they're breathing in toxic which can kill them.

(Ant)- The video on Global warming gives lots of facts on the consequences that can happen if we dont try to make a change. Scientist say that in the next 50 years the sea level can raise up to 20 feet. If the sea level raises 20 feet, half of new york will be swimming under water. The video shows alternatives and solutions to help reduce this catastrophy..Imagine that in fifty years philadelphia will be under water..

2nd meeting with Dr.Gholdson

Today we met with Dr. Gholdson the artist. We started the first collage that we are going to place in the Art gallery. We created collages of pictures that we last week, we're placing them in frames. We also discussed that we are going to begin painting next Friday.

Tour of Center City

On wednesday July, 15 we traveled to the art museum. We took the subway to center city hall, and from there we walk to love park and met up michelle. From there we walked all the way down JFK boulevard. We walkee past historic landmarks and amazing works of art, we took pictures of everything. It was very hot and dry we were exhausted but we walked to the art museum,saw the rocky statue and ran up the rocky steps. That day was very interesting.

The Beginning of the Project

Today monday July 13,2009, we worked on cleaning out the room where we will be painting the Art gallery. It was a lot of work because of the heavy cabinets and the refrigerator, we placed all the heavy stuff in the storage room. The room is finally clean and ready to become an Art gallery. The next step to our project is to figure out what colors to use, to represent the Art gallery. After choosing the colors we will start working on the mural by making different collages focused on our themes. We are meeting with Dr. Gholdson the artist every friday for the next six weeks to get his opinion on how to design the Art gallery. At the end of the six'th week we are going to hold a presentation with our work and Dr.Gholdsons work.

We are members of the BITS program. The BITS program is Building Information Technology Skills. There are many projects in this program, our project is to create an art gallery on the environment. Our mission is to reach people in our community and inspire them to recycle, support peace and save the environment. We are youth group working in Philadelphia. By the end of this program we hope to have an Art gallery filled with different types of art that would reach to others ,to make a change in the world. Our Art gallery will be open to the public, where everyone can look at the art through the display windows on Broad st. The Art gallery will be located on the corner of Broad and Oxford.

Changing the World Green

Today, on July 10, 2009 we met with Dr. Walter R. Gholdson III, Dr. Gholdson is an artist who experiments with Abstract forms of visual art. He is a Vietnam veteran who told us about his life experiences and how he started doing abstract art. He started doing art as a form of therapy to keep his mind away from his life experiences during war. We discussed with him our different ideas of how we are going to create our Art Gallery. He is an expert at creating beautiful and interesting Collages. His work shows a lot of meaning and expresses his different views on life. For the next six weeks he will be helping us with ideas of how we can make our Art Gallery more interesting and appealing to other. We are a group of students working for a program called B.I.T.S (Building Information Technology Skills) which is ran by ITSRG an affiliation of Temple University. We are going to work hard to accomplish our main goal which is to get others to have an interest in our different forms of art. Another goal of ours is to persuade others to change the world and to make it into a better place to live. Our main theme is going green, which is centered on Recycling and helping the environment. Our art will focus on Recycling and Peace. We are going to create different collages with different meanings. We will post images of the whole process. Pictures will come soon.
